An error of the design. The trap is nonfunctional as is. The door is made poorly from flimsy plastic, undersized in three dimensions. As it could be guessed from the picture, the filter is attached to the door by the screw holding the knob, therefore the filter is orthogonal to the direction of the door sliding. That makes opening the door impossible without damaging the filter. It is clearly an error of the design.
